When it comes down to packing your hospital bag it can be very overwhelming knowing exactly what to bring and what not to bring. I took the time to speak to different doctors, doulas and veteran moms and I’ve narrowed down the must-have items to bring with you to the hospital.
First of all lets face it ( if everything goes well) we will not be moving to the hospital. With that said, lets be very conscious of what items are essential for you and the baby to have and what would be considered over packing. Take a moment to think about your particular situation, what calms you down, what makes you feel at home, what do you think you will, for sure, need. Forget about the “whats ifs”. That could be endles. Now think about your birth plan, is it a natural birth, c-section ( this may mean that you would be staying an extra few days at the hospital= more clothes); will you be breast feeding or not. All this questions matter because they will directly affect what you bring to the hospital. For example if you are planning on breastfeeding then there’s no need to bring bottles. Think long, hard and calmed about your situation, what works for you and go from there.
On this quick video tutorial I’ve included the items you will need ( for the baby) regardless of your situation and also the items you should bring for yourself. Keep in mind that I’m planning for a natural birth, I’m planning to breastfeed and I look forward to a rather rapid dismissal from the hospital. This is neither right or wrong its part of what works for me and it doesn’t have to be like that for you. Every mom is different, every birth is different and you should do what feels right for you and the baby.
Happy packing everyone!
